Paul Shum Family Butchers, based in Yoxall, was awarded second place in this year’s Countryside Alliance Awards. Also known as the Rural Oscars, they celebrate the very best of rural living and community service.

Having won 3 regional champion titles, Paul and Catriona were invited to attend the awards ceremony at the House of Lords on 8 July to receive the ‘Midlands Champion Butcher’ award for 2026. Receiving an additional, national award - Highly Commended – marked an unexpected and exciting moment for them.

Paul said “We were already very proud of our team, suppliers and amazing customers. But to achieve Highly Commended and second place nationally is amazing. We thank our loyal customers for nominating, voting and supporting us, year in, year out - we have the very best community. We accept both awards for our whole team who work so hard and with such care.”

Paul Shum Family Butchers has continued to grow since it opened the doors almost 8 years ago. It has extended twice, adding an extensive deli section and a dedicated Veg Barn. Its commitment to sourcing and supplying local meat and produce is unwavering, along with providing excellent, affordable quality for everyone.

Countryside Alliance: “The awards celebrate butchers who provide that vital link between local people and the farms and fields that surround them. It recognises those who champion high standards of animal welfare and put their community on the map through the quality of the local produce they sell.”
